Class Preparation and Participation (60 points)

This includes

  • reading assigned chapters and articles, or materials from your small group members;
  • posting entries and reactions in either the threaded discussion area of the course’s WebCT site, or at the course blog, Ed Tech Matters (http://sdexter.net/blog);
  • participating in class discussions and group activities during class.

These expectations are all intended to foster processing of the readings, to allow students’ a forum to demonstrate their comprehension of the ideas in the reading, and to generate dialogue among students.

Action Research Project (130 points)

You will select an instance where technology planning and implementation is occurring and describe and analyze it. The case may concern work that is being carried out in your school or district or another place of interest to you. The preparation of this is broken out into 4 parts, the final version of which, along with an oral report, is due at the end of the term. This case study will serve as the primary location for you to apply theory presented in class readings.

Cases in ETIPS (60 points)

These online assignments will provide us a common setting for applying a principle of educational technology integration or implementation, and analyze the impact of the context on how it plays out. These cases require a short answer response to a case challenge.

Synthesis Paper (30 points)

The two to three page synthesis essay will serve to summarize your learnings from class readings and activities, particularly as they apply to your future plans to lead efforts to integrate and implement technology. Report on what you take away as your learnings about instructional technology and its place in classrooms and schools.
