Innovative Pedagogy that is Supported by Technology:
The Latest Findings From the Around the World

IEA’s Second International study of Technology in Education (SITES) Module 2 (M2)

  • This international qualitative study of innovative pedagogical practices using ICT (information and communication technologies) involved over 25 countries. The website provides an overview and a list of participating countries. The final report of the IEA SITES M2 study was published by ISTE in 2003.
  • Reading one: The assigned Kozma article in JRTE reviews the major findings about teacher, student, and technology practice, roles and outcomes in the SITES M2 project. You got a paper copy of this in class. Read it and then make a post and reactionat WebCT under the topic "Kozma Rdg for 2/4".
  • Reading two: a case report
    1. go to http://sitesm2.org/sitesm2_search/
and choose “Advanced Search” and then scroll *all the way down* this page to the heading “Project Clusters.”
    2. select any cluster to search for cases in that cluster. Pick one (not from the U.S. or one mentioned in the Kozma article). Read it and note -which cluster defines it? - was the instructional practice an innovation or a reform - what appeared to be the rationale for the technology use? -what contextual factors aided its success?
    3. Bring this information and a copy of the case to class to share with your group.
